I seem to run into trouble with most gallery folks and I haven't been able to sort it all out.  I like working with steel and do have some ambitions I want to explore further.  Working with recycle metals makes it possible to work relatively quickly.  This allows for a little bit of whimsy, passion and a lot of expression.
The gallery folks say I'm all over the place and should focus.  They're right but I say flexibility provides wiggle room, really helps an artist stay fresh and try something new.  To challenge one's self and break molds that inevitably occur when a person does the same process over and over.  Having started out stone carving, I really miss being able to pound, chisel, sand, finish, etc.  I also felt I wanted to "go heroic" and that - in stone - is truly a monumental undertaking just in shipping, purchasing and time carving is more than I could bare with the markets like they are.
Finding these steel parts also involves getting involved with people, creating friendships and dialogue that, for them anyway, is just off the wall enough to be remembered.

School  I eat up all the instruction, slides and philisophical conversations I came in contact with.  This piece came from a moment in time when my first professor was wild about chainsaw carving.  We had a reservoir near by where Kansas flooding is also sure to deposit washed-out tree roots.  Phase II that same semester was about networking with the local pressure tank manufacturer for donations of scrap metal.  This was the beginning of exploring Picasso's "Found Art" phase.  "Art is where you 'find it'".  I always refer to his "Minotaur - Bull's Head", a bicycle seat and handle bars.  This also had an impact on my Blackfeet Pony, that being made of motorcycle parts.  It sort came together like that.
But I liked the mix of ward soft wood intermixed with cold hard steel as well as the biomorphic form within the stark mathematical geometry.  These materials held true to their sensibilities and proclivities.  Like being true to yourself, ya know?
